Info about the bride:
33 years old. Pisces. My birthday (March 11th) falls on a Saturday in 2023 so it was an option for our wedding date but I was definitely not about that as I wanted separate special days and more reasons to celebrate. Born in Auckland and grew up on Waiheke. My mum is American and my dad is a Kiwi (born in Christchurch). After High School I studied fashion design and then went on to get a Post Graduate Diploma in Secondary School Teaching. I taught Fabric Technology at high school level for 3 years in Waiuku and was only 21 years old in my first year of teaching. I met a lot of my favorite people while living in Waiuku (some of which are attending the wedding). I met Alan during a trip to the states to visit my grandparents and a year and a half later I made the decision to move to the US. I initially planned to move for only a year, however, it turned into many years and I now live in Orlando with Alan and work as a Technical Designer in the Costume Department at Walt Disney World.
Info about the groom:
Roger is Alan’s first name but he goes by his middle name as he is a Junior. He will be 33 years old on January 20th 2023. He shares the same birthday (day not year) as my sister and they have a lot of similarities (particularly their intelligence and sneakiness). He is the eldest child and has one brother named Michael. We met in a bar in Milwaukee Wisconsin in 2012 and my dad was the one that gave Alan my number. When we met, I was surprised to find out that (at the time) he played rugby (rugby is not much of a popular sport in the US) and that he knew a little bit about New Zealand as a result. The first time Alan came to NZ my friends and I decided to dress up “American” to make him feel at home. We had him wearing a t-shirt that said “America, Fuck Yeah” and I noticed as we were wandering around town that he kept trying to cover it up. When I asked him about it, he said “there are children around and my shirt says fuck” which I thought was the most adorable and rather innocent thing for him to say. Alan and my parents get on really well (my mum thinks he is the best). When he decided to propose he sent my mum a picture of the ring on Facebook messenger. Mum being mum accidently down thumbed the picture, without realizing, so for a while he was worried that mum hated the ring. Alan currently works as an Engineer for United Airlines.
How would you describe your wedding day?: The venue we are getting married at describes it as a "wedstival" which is kind of the vibe I wanted. I am not a super fancy person and did not want to get married on a beach (because I grew up on Waiheke Island and that is what everyone did). Alan and I are not religious so it did not make sense to get married in a church. We just wanted something that was mainly outdoors (hoping it does not rain) and a had a kind of rustic NZ vibe (so our family and friends from the US could experience that). We want our ceremony to feel intimate, special, and sincere and then we want the canape hour to feel like a picnic or a summer get together. Just fun and relaxed with bevvies, games, and food. Then for the reception we want those special moments but also want it to just be a big party. Basically, we just want our wedding to be a good time. We want it to feel special without being too formal.
